IE7 - towards better standards support in IE

  • Reported by Andreas

Similar to Peter Nederlof's solution for enabling :hover on non-links in Internet Explorer, there is Dean Edwards's IE7 project.

IE7 invokes a DHTML behavior to load and parse all style sheets into a form that Explorer can understand. You can then use most CSS2 selectors without having to resort to CSS hacks.

His list of selectors and attributes supported is impressive: among others, abbr, :first-child, [attr="value"], :hover,... Only in alpha, but already impressive.

Very impressive, indeed. I'm counting down the days until he gets a letter from Microsoft about his use of "IE7", though.

About the possible letter from Microsoft: I don't think so. Everybody know IE7 stands for Import Extension 7 or something like that... The name 'IE' has nothing to do with Microsofts Internet Explorer; the extensions do, of course.

Well, actually if I recall right Microsoft has filed for a copyright on the letters "I" and "E". In fact I do believe that you have to expressly ask Microsoft for permission to use those letters. Oh ... crud ... I used those letters. Now I've done it ... oh wait. Oh no, Microsoft and the feds are beating down my door right now for infringement ... gotta go. : )
