Fighting the monster
Reading blogs and listening on mailinglist discussions, I see many tries at getting some fight against IE started. At CodingForums we have also had this discussion. This has led to a project, for now named Pro Moz (will probably be changed to something more browser neutral), with the intention of spreading more standards compliant browsers to the broader user base. The project will have a user-centric outlook instead of a developer-centric outlook, and we will try to reach the average user, not the tech user. I want to urge any one interested in this, in the ideas behind it, and with ideas about how to get on with it, to join the discussion on CodingForums, sign up on the project page, and spread the word. I know it doesn't look much to the world at the moment, but ideas are brewing inside. What we don't want to see is a split movement, where different web developer communities start their own small projects, but instead one large project with momentum to really do something. More on this as the project takes a more definite shape.
Those interested might want to read these articles as well: The door is ajar (Tim Bray), Please use a better browser (Eric Dobbs)

It's just you.
Why would ordinary users be unhappy with IE? I'm no ordinary user and still I'm extremely happy with IE. As a user I see no added value to Mozilla over IE at all.
As a developer of very advanced browser based applications I do see some advantages of Mozilla over IE. But forget about all the rest: they don't do XML/XSL/contenteditable. You cannot develop decent applications on top of anything else besides IE and Mozilla.
IE is still my favorite. Try developing something really complex like a wysiwyg validating xml editor: IE is the only browser capable of handling it (although you need to work around a lot of stuff regarding textranges).
And what about this "IE is dead anyway" stuff? Do you guys really think MS will abandon IE and let others take over their share of the browser market?

Microsoft isn't abandoning IE....it's just going to take its own sweet time making the next version. At the earliest, it'll be 2005. And you'll have to buy a new version of Windows. 2 years? That's a lifetime in the computer business.
I've heard some people saying, in effect, "Of course, if something else comes out in the meantime, no one's going to use it, because MS has the browser market sewn up..."
Anyone remember Lotus and 1-2-3, or the last king of the browsers, Netscape? Hello, McFly?......

Is it just me or over the past six months has there been a change of more and more people unhappy with Internet Explorer.
