ReUSEIT

  • Reported by Nate

Bob Sawyer has put together a fantastic contest with ReUSEIT: redesign Jakob Nielsen's useit website with XHTML and CSS. Dr. Nielsen's sentiments through his Alertbox publication on useit and many other efforts have garnered responses ranging from devoted enthusiasm to unabashed distain. Here is a chance for designers [you] to really show their stuff, and to make a strong point about it by using web standards. It's not just for the challenge either, great prizes are being offered.

It would be nice if Jakob Nielsen asserted some usability principles dedicated to modeling after the way we have read printed material for the last few centuries: in organized columns of compartmentalized information. Imagine that?

Very true. So why not enter the contest and show him how it's done? ;-))

It would be nice to have Jakob mention this contest on his homepage... does anyone have the pull with him to get that done? :)

I guess if anyone did, it'd be me, since I contacted him about the contest to begin with. The fact that he hasn't responded to any of my emails since giving me the thumbs-up on the contest is testament to the fact, I think, that he's not interested in having anything to do with it other than maybe looking at the winners once they're announced. But even then, he's not going to use the winning design(s) for the site.

What I really need are people with inside tracks to Adobe and Macromedia. I contacted both companies about donating prizes to the contest, but haven't gotten so much as a "buzz off" from them... anyone?
