Web-Graphics returns with new look
Hi, pardon us, I know we've been gone for a while, but we're back now, and we've put on something more comfortable now.
If you have a semi-modern browser, you're looking at a whole new design for this site, created by longtime Web-Graphics author Arturo. If you're using an older browser, you're still seeing an improved page, although somewhat less visibly - I've cleaned up the XHTML quite a bit too.
There's much to report about why the site went offline, and what choices have been made for this re-design [more soon]

Thanks Bob! There are a few more design issues that need to be ironed out. I realize that a right aligned site might not sit well with a lot of people, but there are centered and left aligned versions coming soon. I think over time, a high level of user customization is what we are going for.

Yeah, the right-alignment threw me off for a minute, but now that I've had time to adjust, I like it. It's different, keeps your readers on their toes, and makes your site stand out. I personally plan to keep it as-is when given the choice of alternate alignments. Still, I recognize that others might not agree with me... :-)

i like the right-alignment... it's something 'different'. and different is good for a site like this.

Looks great! I admit, when I noticed the new look of the "we're down" page, I was totally anxious to see what ya'll would do. It looks great! Keep up the good work!

Regarding the "Previous Months" section at the bottom of the page.
Could you link the month' names directly instead of specifying a separate "view posts" link? I for one am already used to month names == archive link on blogs...

Oh, and I forgot to mention: *very* nice layout. Clean and fresh, yet not dull!

Thanks for all the positive feedback!
Jan: good suggestion for the previous months - will add to list.
FYI - Win IE users, persistent float/margin type bug exists on some pages still.. working on a solution as time permits.

Sweeet.
Only gripe: Horizontal scrollbar doesn't appear in Firebird for some reason...

Excellent.
You were missed.
Nice redesign. I like the sidebar functions you've got working. The nice titles function is very slick.

Yep an excellent new design to match the usually excellent content. ;-)

I like the new site, although I think the paragraphs could do with some bottom margins.

Luke, I agree - there is some fine tuning on the horizon. The comment's page is especially bad...

For those not aware.. Arturo = Pepe = the guy who designed this site.

Like the new site design. I'm not sure if this was what Luke was reffering to, but it might be easier to read if there was some whitespace between paragraphs. Just a suggestion.

Oh one more thing, you can't edit you're own comments, is this something you guys would implement (in case I accidentaly typed something wrong like my URL in the last post) ?

Paul - Long time no see, thanks for the kind words. In answer to your question -- I'd like to offer comment editing, but I can't see how short of installing some sort of user registration security and/or using something other than the current Moveable Type system. There might be some sort of plug-in, but maybe it's easier to have folks simply let me know and I can edit it for them.
Richard and Luke - agreed with the bottom padding aka whitespace below paragraphs, but this too brings up some questions about implementation. The problem is that there are two ways for authors to enter a post:
#1. Line break conversion on: this simulates paragraph breaks, but actually just inserts line breaks.
#2 Without LB conversion: this outputs whatever was entered raw, it's ideal for making a post with more than just a few links
So - Mode #1 is the default, and it's a quick and easy way to make a post, but I can't add paragraph spacing since each post is just one paragraph with line breaks in it. Mode #2 is probably the way to go, but I'd have to figure out how to disable the default mode (#1) for Moveable Type to prevent confusion.
Maybe I'm making this more complicated than it needs to be? Suggestions are welcome.
