OS X freeware goodies

  • Reported by Nate

Hide Itoh has created a number of excellent freeware os x utilities over at Pixture Studio. I've tried out QuickImageCM and SnapClip, both of which are very well thought out and useful. SnapClip is a low key (faceless) screen capture tool which offers a number of capturing and output options. QuickImageCM is a contextual menu plug-in which displays images (single or multiple) along with vital image information, zoom, copy/save, and even a thumbnail icon maker - all without actually launching an application! Viewing a folder full of images is even quicker with QuickImageCM than in preview because as you navigate (through keyboard or mouse click) the images are loaded individually, rather than all at once.
These apps and plug-ins are a good example of how little or no GUI can remove a layer of interference between you and your tasks, and on top of it all, they are feature rich.

Yay for Hide! Finally I can fix OSX's useless PDF screen capture format! And for free! Woohoo!

Good point Darrel, Snapz-pro also has alternative output options, but it's not free. Oh yes, a little tip for those trying out QuickImageCM: in the preferences (found within the contextual menu) you can pop the "view image..." function up to the top level. This makes viewing images with the menu a little quicker quicker. As a side note for brand newbie os x users: the contextual menu can be brought up for any file by either option clicking, or, if you have a multiple button mouse: right clicking. um, might as well keep going... As a side note for non-computer users: a mouse is a pointing device used in tandem with the keyboard to control a computer. As a side note for those who never heard of a computer: a computer is sort of like a cross between a very fancy abbicus and a loom. As a side note to cavepersons: meat good, fire bad (might as well start by introducing a binary relationship). *sorry, it's friday*

Ah, but fire + meat + BBQ sauce = good!
