Hack Hotbot, but only in the US

  • Reported by Nate

David S. over at mezzoblue, was interested in entering the hack hotbot contest. He was upset/confused to see that prizes are only awarded to those who happen to live in the US [isn't that a bit counter-intuitive to the idea of having an internet site design contest?]. Now it turns out he's been invited via email - despite still not being able to win, based on what he believes is a reference on his site about not being able to win! So it might be a little careless to spider websites that mention the contest and email associated webmasters without checking to see if they are actually complaining about the limitations of the contest itself. In anycase, David has a better explination of the story on his site.

The URL appears to be broken right now, so here's the correct link.

*whew* those "A" tags are quite tricky.. what with the "href" and all ;-) Ok, the link is fixed now.

Thanks Nate. Just an extra note for anyone who stumbles upon this without making it as far as my site: Terra-Lycos has been further in touch with me, and talking to a couple of different people it appears as though the original e-mail was just a really bad goof by one of their marketing types. The official word is that non-US designers are allowed to enter through third parties in the US, or mailing addresses. I've opened up my comments field for hook-ups, so hopefully anyone wishing to enter will be able to.

In the continued interest of fair play, I've posted a few notes after I've had a chance to play with the code a bit. Hopefully it will be of use.
