I Like Syndication
Maybe it's NetNewsWire's wonderful interface, or perhaps just the efficiency of it all, it makes me very happy when websites take the leap and add syndication files of one sort or another. Even more so, when non-weblogs take the leap. Such is the case with graphics.com (not related to web-graphics.com), who now offer this graphics.com rss 0.91 newsfeed, for those interested.

For the truly geeky among us, php.net is also now offering an RSS feed.4. January 25, 2003 11:58 PM

I've missed out on this revolution - I'll be in on the next one.
And speaking of revolutions - I think it's incredible that those Moveable Type people were able to fundamentally alter the way *I* use the internet by bringing this technology to the masses through their blogging tool, even though I've never used their software (except when posting here at web-graphics) and rarely even made it to their websites.
I'm rooting for the Raiders.

I like syndication too. I also appreciate the vast wealth of knowledge floating in and around this site and am curious about a couple of things. A. Can I get a link to an article explaining RTF, RSS and its different versions, and XML-RTC (or is it RFC?) written for a technical newbie and B. Is there a PHP/MySQL to XML module specifically for syndication(?)I've missed out on this revolution - I'll be in on the next one.

Evan, here is a class that's setup to help one create rss 1.0 files quite simply: rsswriter. This tool might also be useful for simply getting the concept and writing your own custom solution. If you've written your own method of outputting posts from a database into browsable html (php) pages, then outputting that data in the form of a syndication file should be cake.6. Thanks for helping me get on the bandwagon. I'm seeing the benifits of syndication already. Catching up on what's going on doesn't take nearly as long... although I still spend plenty of time "surfing".
