DSpace

  • Reported by dr.u

MIT and HP have unveiled a new web site, DSpace, to store the massive amount of information their two research centers churn out every year. Complements of ZDNet. This isn't a small web site either.

Eventually, MIT's system will wield more than a petabyte, or a quadrillion bytes of data.
Enjoy!

I forgot to mention that this site is using a https protocol. So the page will ask if you want to view an encrypted page. I have checked it out and it seems to be ok. I really don’t know why they even did it that way.

wow, this is really neat–as of november 4th, you can download the system here. From an initial browsing, it seems that all the actual docs are stored in pdf format–which, while great for presenting documents with all the appropriate design elements, it seems a bit unfortunate that html versions (or just previews) aren’t also available.
