Thanks for this aticle, it was very helpful. One thing that you might've added is how important it is to update the firmware on older G4s and Imacs. I installed OSX.2 on my sons Imac without installing the latest version of firmware. There were two firmware versions at the Apple.com website, and the one that I downloaded was not the latest version. As a result, Mac OSX.s literally "totalled" my son's IMac. It caused more then $400 worth of damage to the logic board. The computer was worth about $400. It took almost two hours on the telephone to convince Apple that a software upgrade should never destroy the computer...especially on an Apple. In the end Apple paid for the repairs. I learned a lesson about firmware upgrades. Happy Holidays, Man
