Emailware is a Good Idea

  • Reported by Nate

The moveabletype website lists "posting via email" as one of the features currently under development. Milo is apparently having fun with the same feature in his own posting system. The pure simplicity and ease of this seems very promising, I wonder if/how any catagory support could be implemented into such a feature. I also wonder why more applications are not based on input recieved via email from the start - email applications are ready made guis that folks are comfortable with.

I think the big promise of this feature is being able to post via email from a wireless device such as a BlackBerry, PDA or laptop that's not directly connected to the Internet. But yeah, I'm also wondering how they'll handle categories.

Yay! I've been hoping for this feature for ages (I held off on settling for MT while I looked for alternatives that offered this.) Incidentally, if you can't wait, there is already a way of almost doing this, called Flexwindow. This allows you to put little text placeholders on your site that you can administer by email, sending an email to a central server to retrieve the current content, or sending new content to replace the existing content. I gave up on it when it turned out to be very unsuitable for blogging, but for bits of static content on one's site, or for a client, I think it could be quite useful.

Is this eerie or what. I just got an email from Flexwindow:

Perhaps you would like to know that FlexWindow has a new feature for updating windows. You can now use the add@flexwindow.com or add.bottom@flexwindow.com to add content instead of replacing. Please note that the feature has to be activated by first sending an update with update@flexwindow.com for existing windows not used in the last week.

For more details see the techguide on the site. We will announce this new feature soon, but I remembered you where the first user asking for it. Sorry it took a while, but we also developed more security options and back-end improvements, etc.

Maybe they're web-graphics.com readers too :)
