Hooray! Many thanks to glish for noticing: IHT dhtml guru John Weir has released code for the (I think) ultra usable multi column reader called sg layout. Like in IHT, a long article can be setup with a limited height and flowing into 2 or more columns - if the article is longer than the columns on the page, clicking on the last column (anywhere in the text) moves the text forward by columns, all without reloading the page. It's so much more elegant than I'm describing here.
