Fixing a 500 error with WordPress and Media Temple

If you read this website with any regularity you may have noticed it was replaced with a 500 error for a while. My apologies, I have no idea what triggered it.

After some fruitless searching, I feel duty-bound to at least blog about how I fixed the issue:

  • Backup the /wp-content/plugins/ directory
  • Empty out that directory from the server
  • Your site probably is working again in some fashion
  • Do any upgrading, then replace the plugin sub-dirs one at a time

Also worth noting – this issue has nothing to do with Media Temple (my preferred host for personal and professional work) I just mentioned them since this seemed like a hosting issue and I tended to include them when scouring for solutions.
