New Design

I’m going to go ahead and link a jpg here that shows a concept Arturo has for a redesign of this site. Usually I’d ask his permission before posting something like this, but not this time. Like the current design, I love the simplicity of it, it’s so clean – but without being boring. I believe I’ll be implementing this, but I’m waiting to see an alternate layout he’s done first.

In unrelated news, I’ve signed up for Nitro hosting account over at Media Temple (for a client project). This is a new service they offer, it’s a powerful box for hosting. While I’m sure there are cheaper options out there, I’ve been so happy with Media Temple’s support system (both tickets and phone based), that it’s well worth it for projects that need that kind of horse power. This is not, by the way, an advertisement – just thought other’s might appreciate the recommendation. Nitro, the hosting service, does not have anything to do with Nitro the glam metal band. At least I hope.

I’m normally a fan of clean, simple design, but I’m not that warm to this comp. I prefer the current design. I think the color and typography makes me think of Flickr without the pictures, and what fun would that be. Perhaps the repeating sample content is playing tricks on me, but so far I’m just not feeling it.

Of course I usually read in my feed reader, so you should implement whatever design moves you.

At first glance I thought the side content were ads so I didn’t even bother to look at those entries. It took a third glance for it to register that I am meant to actually focus on that content. Of the two, I prefer the current design best. But I do like the spacing between the main and side content in the mock-up. Doesn’t feel as crunched as the current design.

I think I pointed out that I liked the current design in a comment on your last post. After seen the new design, however, I still like the current design.

The current fonts are small but clear, like they are some why in the distance and you have to squint to make out what they are, but when you get there you know they’ll be sharp.

The new design is blocky but still small like it’s been printed on toilet paper (part of the blame lays with the joint photographic experts group, I’m sure).

This is all good feedback, thank you much. I’ll post the more as I get them from Arturo.

I’d like to thank you for the time spent to send in your comments. I have taken into some consideration the feedback you have and am hoping I can post some new comps for all to preview very soon.

It’s interesting, because this current design wasn’t ever fully executed as markup. Time was hard to come by back then and the styling wasn’t complete. Still, many of you like it for what it is. On your first visit to this semi-design… did you ever think “what the hell?” Just curious.

It’s a daunting task to redesign this site while pleasing everyone, but in the end, I hope most will be happy with changes ahead. And for the fans of this version of WG, we could supply a link to reload the current style.

    thanks again!
    Arturo

For a blog website, there is so much whitespace that could be utilized to promote your own website, or advertise for xtra profit. However, choosing not to clutter your website is also a great choice. One which you dont see very often.

    Great site!

It’s really nice design, even though I’m not big fan of such simple websites.
It’s brave to give up all the graphics and leave it only with typography – BRAVO :-)

I like the new one, and didn’t have any of the same problems discibed above. The blue and gray are pretty awesome together.
