IE 7 is upon us

I don’t have much to say about it that wasn’t true for the last candidate, but it’s here for anybody with Windows XP SP2 or better.

Download Internet Explorer 7

Just to mention that, for designers working under GNU/Linux operating system, there is a way to use the IE7 engine in the shell of the IE6 under wine:

so you can see what your design looks like in the new reincarnation of M$IE. I know that it is a blasphemy to mention IE in the Free world, but unfortunately it is still a necessity for web designers/developers.

One of the most interesting aspects of the IE vs. Firefox battle is the development of the ecosystem of extensions or add-ons. Right now firefox had a great advantage in this space but you can see microsoft trying to catch up.

Microsoft has a interesting partner in Trailfire, a recommended download for IE7. See link:
    http://www.ieaddons.com/SearchResults.aspx?keywords=trailfire

But this extension is also available for firefox. See link:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/3524/

I think the ecosystem for firefox and IE will decide who wins this battle. What do you think?

For those who haven’t seen it yet, IE7′s Markus Mielke has posted an extensive list of things fixed in IE7′s CSS rendering engine. Go check it out.

IE will always be somewhere behind for me. They realized too late that they might just lose this fight.
